Last summer somewhere
in Holland. The horrible license plate will be taken care of soon.

Here below some pictures taken during our Turn of the Millenium Trip to Bali
We climbed this
active volcano and boiled some eggs for breakfast in its hot vapours.
The Old Millenium was
sounded out with gamelan music. Laura is appropriately bespecktacled. |
The bell tolled for
the last time in the old millenium. Except for Laura, we are not as intoxicated as we
appear.

Are we cool, or what?
A lovely beach
somewhere on the eastern coast of Bali, where the snorkeling was fun and the beer tasty.

This is at the beach in Kep, a decaying resort on the southern coast. On a neighbouring beach women are selling
live crabs from crates in the sea, you buy a few kg and they boil them for you. Next, you go to this beach where you rent a
mat. The proprietors of the mats arrange your other requirements by zooming around on a
moto to fetch your crabs, cans of drink, a box of tissues and other food. Unflexible
westerners as we are, we prefer a table with chairs. The lady here is selling us grilled
banana & rice sate for $0.4. Initially we thought it expensive for a hand of
five sates, until we realized the $0.4 was for her entire stock of a hundred sticks. Photos: Laura Goudswaard. |
Very popular among Cambodians
is pick-nicking. An entire infrastructure has developed at idyllic spots or near places of
interest, where pick-nickers can rent a covered platform with a view, with cottage
catering swarming around. One such a spot is Tonle Bati. Very idyllic. Little motor boats
can be chartered to cruise along river and lakes. Here are Laura and Kees pedaling
in a craftily manufactured swanshaped waterbike.
